Glenbar is an 11,000 acre Demeter/Nassa certified Organic farm, ran by 4th generation farmers Graeme, Dianne and Marcus Nalder. Nested between the Wakool, Cunningyeuk, and Neimur rivers our property is located about 50kms from Swan Hill. Being part of the grain belt region we produce grains such as wheat, barley and oats. In 2001 we decided to add value to our barley by installing an on farm malting plant, which is the 1st organic on farm malt house in Australia. Our aim was to supply the growing micro brewery industry around Australia with our Malt. Once we were doing this, our focus changed somewhat to producing Australia’s 1st organic beer, using all Australian made organic inputs. With a very limited brewing knowledge we knew we had to find a brewer with a track record or quality brewing and bottling. Holgate Brewhouse at Woodend stood out as our first choice. Paul Holgate of Holgate Brewhouse along with Glenbar Malting has produced Australia’s first organic beer made totally of Australian Organic Malt. This beer is known as ‘Glenbar Lager’. Since their time, both Graeme & Marcus have completed a malting and brewing course at the University of Ballarat to further their brewing knowledge. ‘Our primary aim is produce a product that has maximum contribution to human and environmental health as possible’. |
